Allow us to make one thing glaringly clear about the issue that’s been sweeping the nation lately about a rather ingenious young Irving, Texas, student by the name of Ahmed Mohamed — fear is a powerful force. And many of us have a right to be that way given what happened back on 9/11 as shown by this video.
Needless to say, our caution has since then been so heightened that oftentimes we don’t pay much attention to whether or not there’s any profiling going on, especially if you’re about to board a plane. We’ve recalled stories about passengers about to board having to remove their shoes, drink their unopened bottles of water (to prove they’re not poisonous) and open up their bags just to make sure personnel can see that they’re not bringing weapons or bombs on board. And here’s the most profound detail of that — that protocol applies to everyone.
Not For Ahmed Mohamed, Apparently….
And this kid built a homemade alarm clock! ….That’s it. Ahmed Mohamed brought the thing to school to show off to his teacher — and then was subsequently taken out of school in handcuffs. You might even understand why (clock = bomb. Potentially.).
Now before you throw your hands up and see that there’s cause and justification for anyone to be alarmed that a kid like Ahmed Mohamed brought an intricate ‘machine’ to school and showed it off, what with many of the history and happenings of our past involving bomb threats and school shootings (understandably so to have reservations and fear), know this — there’s something extremely telling about this situation:
Ahmed Mohamed is, indeed, Muslim. So you begin to wonder….
Okay, so, yes, the faculty and even law enforcement officials made it clear that no student should bring such a thing to school without any such consequences, and we would most likely agree. It can raise questions. Because, again, the issue of school shootings, safety guidelines, and additional concerns have their place. We understand.
But suspending Ahmed Mohamed? Arresting and detaining the child? Have we gone too far?
Believe It or Not, But the Answer Is YES, and Here’s Seven Reasons Why:
Those Irving, TX, law enforcement officials and even the principal of MacArthur High can defend their actions all they want regarding Ahmed Mohamed. And, yes, certain measures for safety would have to be taken into account whenever any student brings a clock, or a weapon, or a fork, or even a conspicuous electronic device to school. But there’s no doubt: Ahmed Mohamed was racially profiled, and here’s seven reasons to prove that assumption:
- Peter Mathis from Wilmington, NC — Read about this student and find out what he did to not get arrested. And, oh, yes, we forgot: he’s not a Muslim.
- Haley Zinke and Tasha Williams of Turtle Lake, ND — These two ladies thought it would be fantastic to create a clock as well. Did they get in trouble for it?
- Logan Weimer from Holland, OH –This student made something with acid and copper wire. Weren’t those Science Fair days so much fun? It was for Logan….
- Indy Brumbraugh and Cesar Limas of Dade City, FL — Why would school officials ever worry about an experiment involving water, right? These two kids did just fine…. Within this context, of course.
- Tori Clark from Ellis, KS — Here we have a student praised by a teacher for building a clock. Perfectly normal. Maybe the teacher got in trouble for it?
- Anonymous Student in Kiowa, CO — This one will blow your mind, because this student actually did build a bomb. And didn’t even get in trouble for it! Here’s why.
All of These Reasons Have One Thing in Common, Obviously
These students were not Muslim, nor would ever be suspected to be Islamic Jihadists in any fashion. That all by itself could be scary…. Because you never know. And here’s another startling fact: two of the six of these occurred before 9/11.
This should tell you something about the irrational fear — an understandable paranoia, however — plaguing our nation due to the wonder of whether or not we’re sitting in class in school, or in college, to a potential terrorist planning the next 9/11 attack. This should tell you something about profiling, the unmistakable fallacy that is Muslim racism and how everyone with an Islamic name, or disposition, will ultimately have a heck of a time getting a job, or maybe even filing for a grant or scholarship.
Yet another reason why it’s so important to have an effective internet legal plan in place to protect your rights…. Because we’re almost positive that Mr. Ahmed Mohamed was just building a clock. Surely, Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, President Obama, and Hillary Rodham Clinton supported the intelligence and understanding of such a young 14-year-old boy potentially destined for MIT or NASA greatness. Ahmed Mohamed was, in fact, invited to the White House as well as Facebook corporation to commend him on his engineering skills. Bravo, Ahmed Mohamed. Truly a figure in today’s news among many. And as-salamu alaykum to you as well.Share
